A dog named GG

Terry's dog GG loves to play ballOne month after my husband Ralph passed away, I decided to adopt a dog to bring new life into my home. I named her GG, which stands for God’s Grace.

She is quite a character. Two years old, rescued from the animal shelter, she is delighted to be my companion. She cuddles. She follows me around like a shadow. And she tries to play with my old Shih Tzu-mix, Mona, which makes me laugh.

Mona is a very chill, sleepy dog. Most of the time, she wishes GG would leave her alone. But GG is so full of enthusiasm that she doesn’t “read” Mona’s signals (like growling and displaying her teeth). While GG needs to learn to be polite, I can’t help but appreciate what she’s teaching me about life.

To cheer myself, I began to post pictures of GG on my Facebook page (facebook.com/terry.modica). Everyone loves cute dog pictures. Then I started to think of stories to go with the photos. I finally published one of them as a modern-day parable. See wordbytes.org/modern-day-parables/the-parable-of-the-dog-named-gigi.

Over the many years of posting articles on WordBytes.org, I’ve added a few that are modern-day parables (wordbytes.org/parables). These stories are often used in children’s classrooms but they are very poignant for adults. Hopefully GG will inspire me to write more stories with her as the hero.

Let me know what you think!
